SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT ART

when i embarked upon this long strange trip of becoming a world famous artist, i was keenly aware that those with financial resources would be able to  reproduce successful ideas at a fraction of my costs.

in order to put some distance between me and the wolves nipping at my heels,  i had to push the envelope in a manner which made the mass production of my creations economically unviable.  in this i have become more successful than i imagined but it has become a double edged sword.  while i have no peers in the kinetic art venue, i have not been able to take advantage of the aforementioned mass production techniques.  because of this i have evolved into creating three production classifications.

  1. -UNLIMITED-
i will continue to make this design until you pull my blue hot torch from my cold dead hand. (for those of you keeping track, i was born in 1954), or until i get bored.
  2.

  3. -LIMITED-
these are sculptures which are limited to a discrete number of units.  these sculptures are subject to the same restrictions as the unlimited class above with the added one of number.  each sculpture is marked in metal with it's number and the total number of the run.  this allows me to distribute the very substantial cost of developing a design over a limited number of sculptures bringing the production costs down from the stratosphere.
  4.

  5. -ONE-OF-A KIND-
as it sounds, sculptures that the muse demanded but which for technical or practical reasons i decide not to re-create.

in conclusion, i must reiterate that no matter which type of sculpture, it is still li'l ol' me hamerin' it out by myself in my studio.
